It still amazes me how a little solder and a few gizmos can wow the crowd. Really, it's all smoke and mirrors! My mom of course thinks I'm Einstein. ;-) I'm so impressed that you soldered! Bummer it didn't work, but radios are really hard though so give yourself a break. Analog RF circuits suck! I love tinkering in my garage.
