Great post. I got a mirror and befuddled by how it should attach to the windshield mount. Did yours have a spring clip? Mine does, but try as I might, I can’t get it to seat properly. Strange….

hey… I seriously am not a blog responding kinda guy… but this just had me on the hunt on eBay to look for one… I may not be very car savvy, but my best friend is, and when I can get the money to buy one of these auto dimming with compass rear view mirrors, I’ll be having him work off some of his debt to me using this as his “guide”…

I just installed a Donnelly auto dimming mirror in my 2006 Vibe using the instructions above. The wiring is the same and it works great. I could not follow the standard routing through the A-pillar because the car is equipped with SRS air bags. Great site!!!

Zhuang, great question. Yeah, I remember that schematic being very confusing. I got my info from the wiring manual, which I have linked at the bottom of that blog post. It’s in the “moon roof” section of the Matrix wiring manual:

Look at page 2 of the PDF “036mr.pdf”. It says, “Ground : Approx. 12 volts with the ignition SW at ON position.”Â They’re talking about pin 2, which is the pin 2 I’ve drawn in my little diagram. From the PDF, it looks like that wire is black.

To be sure about all this, just get a voltmeter and measure this with and without the key turned to the “on” position. See if you have power in “on”Â and no power when switched “off”.

Thanks so much for your great post on auto dimming mirror installation on your Matrix. My only question is how to idenfity the wire you spliced into for power.

I had trouble deciphering the cable connector diagram. Do you remember the color of the cable for the “12V accessory”?
