Trailer Roundup (vol. 3): Wreath Movies

Time for this week’s Trailer Friday roundup!

This week’s collection of trailers are what Sarah and I call “Wreath Movies.” That is, the one thing they have in common is a display — usually at the very beginning or after the first act of the trailer — of two wreaths, left and right surrounding the title of a film festival and the award the movie received.

These are typically very good movies, thought provoking and satisfying. The kinds of movies that make you think afterward and seek out others with which to discuss the film’s subject.

Sure, sometimes they’re more arty movies, but that’s good from time to time. Like vitamins or clear drinking water. You can’t always have cheeseburgers and soda pop.

I’m impressed with Mandy Moore. She’s managed some real indie cred. Her movie is definitely taking a note from the dysfunctional lead character playbook, but it looks interesting.

Speaking of odd characters, Rocket Science is a charmer:

Wow, wow, wow. I can’t wait to see this. Reminds me of Wes Anderson’s kind of quirky. This director gave us the wonderful doc Spellbound. That’s all the info I needed.

Finally, one of my favorite biographies, Into the Wild, has been made into a movie:

And I’m pleased that Sean Penn is responsible. He has the right sensibilities I think to make this authentic and not preachy. The trailer is a bit heavy-handed, but I have high hopes for the film.

Until next week…

Given the interests of our family, I thought your review was going to be in The Wild!

How’s the honeymoon? Oh, & Happy Birthday!
