I understand from reading other "layman's" explanations that there are an many more than 10 dimensions in string theory. Not sure I understand it.

In that text there seems to be an implication that there are only 10 dimensions. I understand from reading other “layman’s” explanations that there are an many more than 10 dimensions in string theory.
