The garage of our new house was broken into long before we bought it. Someone had kicked in the side entrance door. So I reinforced the doorjamb with a piece of steel angle iron, making my own door latch / deadbolt combo strike plate. Here are some pics…

So now, there are a total of six 3-inch screws holding the 1/16″ inch guage steel strike plate to the cinder block wall of the garage.  Go ahead, give the door a kick.  😉

  1. I’ve been looking for a reinforced strike plate at homedepot and lowes and can’t seem to find them. where can i get some?

    1. Not sure where you can find them, James. I used widely available steel angle iron and cut out notches for the door latches. You can pick up cheap angle iron from metal shops.
