Handspring Thin Modem Repair

I got a email from a guy in response to a post I put on VisorCentral. He had a broken Thin Modem (Springboard module) — the phone connector had come off.

I was a little leery about the extent of the damage, but I told him to send it to me and I’d give it a look. You can see the before (first photo) and after images.

It turns out that the connector had come clean off, and the pads weren’t that damaged. In fact, they were still intact. I was quite surprised, but relieved as the rework would be much easier.

I’m a bit surprised at Handspring’s quality control here.
