Indeed. Here’s the final, dreadful stage:

Oh thanks, man. Took me about a month to learn a bunch of PHP. But so fun.

One more thought: I want a Krull reboot. Wouldnβt that be sweet?!

I think youβre on to something there, Bruce. π

Oh man, do I ever remember Krull! Wow, that remains one of my favorite fantasy films of all time. Great, great memories with you, Jimmy!
I own Avatar and convinced Sarah to watch it with me. She liked it a lot too!

That would have been fun, Had.

No problem! It was a fun fix. One caveat I should have mentioned though: if she uses a serial cable to connect the phone to a computer, that might not work. Some of those pads are missing on the connector, some of which might be for serial communication!

Automagically create annual month folders
Well that spoils the fun!

Thanks man.

Well, you could short the fuse but the board could smoke later.
I listed the part numbers in the post. You can find them on Digi-Key.

Hmm, bummer. Yeah, I’ve got some of my displays that were still dead after doing the fix. On some of those, I suspect that the power supplies were bad too.

Hi, Jinshin. Though it might appear otherwise, I’m not a design firm. I’m just a dude with a soldering iron. And time enough to spare on adequate documentation.

Heck no, IKEA gets enough credit for all our home decor. I’m taking the credit for this one.

And I should add that Iris only gets to watch Elmo about once or twice a week! π

Hmm, I’ll have to check my old MX Revolution mouse to verify. Props to them for good design as well.

Ah thanks. Glad it made sense.

You’re just jealous that the Android platform (and open source community at large) is more splintered and inconsistent.

Tis the season to hack your address book…
How about that?! I’m glad this hack continues to help others, Daryl. It’s definitely strange how big software companies loose site of these details.

Whoa, nice work-around, Eli. Thanks for contributing to this annual discussion! π
» Posted By Rob On December 14, 2017 @ 7:37 am
Nicely done, Darryl! I’ve switched away from Apple products (https://www.electrolund.com/2015/11/platform-interchange/), but I’m glad that this post is still helpful this time of year.
» Posted By Rob On December 20, 2015 @ 1:04 pm
Hmm, no I haven’t tried it yet this year. Bummer, as I’m on Yosemite now too.
However, I’ve moved over to Google services for my address book. So, I don’t know that I’ll have to revisit this again this year.

That’s a good point, Bruce.
I’ve also noticed that this fix isn’t very perfect. In my own address book, I had some contacts with “sister” or “brother” or “son/daughter” keys attached. And unfortunately, it would include all children as well, rather than just spouse. Oh well, time to just get it done and move on…
» Posted By Rob On December 21, 2013 @ 12:40 pm
Ok, I found the answer. Address Book has been renamed Contacts now. The same rules above apply.
» Posted By Rob On December 15, 2013 @ 8:55 am
I’ll look into this, Bruce…
» Posted By Rob On December 14, 2013 @ 10:42 am
Adrienne, that’s going to be harder (impossible?) to do. Contacts matches the people based on their last name.
Oddly, Apple isn’t feeling very progressive in this regard. π

I’m pleased to report that this hack still mostly works, even after upgrading to OS X Lion. There are a few of my address entries that refuse to “find” the spouse field and print. Hmmmm.
